Frank Mir has lost his heavyweight belt twice: Brandon Vera and Brock Lesnar. He is coming off a huge win in UFC 107 where he beat Cheick Kongo. That win moved him to 13-4 in his professional fighting career. In 2004 Mir was in a serious motorcycle accident that caused him to break his femur and tear all ligaments in his knee. It took him nearly two years to fight again. Sherdog currently ranks him as the #3 heavyweight.
Carwin is a smart cookie! Out of college, he became an engineer, and he continues to pursue that career as he trains. He is also a wrestling coach at the University of Northern Colorado. While in college, Carwin was a two time Division II Wrestling National Runner-up, in the heavyweight category. Within his professional fighting career, Carwin has never lost. Carwin holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

If we had a gun to our head, we would go with the slight underdog – Shane Carwin in this fight. What are your predictions for the Mir vs. Carwin fight?
I have to go with Mir. The crisp, powerful striking will make it difficult and frustrating for the heavy-handed Carwin to do the damage that he wants to do, and I see him making the mistake of taking Mir down. Mir will then submit him. Towards the end of round one. That is my prediction.
