UFC 118 Odds

Ultimate Fighting Championship is a mixed martial arts event that continues tours throughout not only the United States, but also worldwide. UFC 118 is coming up on August 28th, 2010 at the TD Garden in Boston, MA. The venue is the home of the NBA’s Boston Celtics, and also the NHL’s Boston Bruins. The lead fight for this event is the Lightweight Championship bout between Frankie Edgar and B.J. Penn. This is a rematch of the April 10, 2010 battle, in which Edgar won via unanimous decision to win the Lightweight crown. Both of these fighters are American mixed martial arts fighters. Frankie Edgar is a 28-year-old fighter from New Jersey. Standing at just 5’6, and weighing 155lbs. he uses his wrestling, boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu style against his opponents. His current record as a mixed martial arts fighter is 12-1, with his lone loss coming on April 2nd, 2008 against Gray Maynard. B.J. Penn turns 32 years old, and was born and raised in Hawaii. The fighter is known by his peers as “The Prodigy”. Penn comes in with a 15-6 record, with two of those losses coming to Georges St. Pierre.

The Heavyweight bout will feature Randy Couture against James Toney. Couture is one of the oldest fighters in Ultimate Fighting Championship, at 47 years old. From Everest Washington, Captain America holds an 18-10 overall record. He has won his last two bouts over Brandon Vera and Mark Coleman. James Toney will turn 42 later this month. “Lights Out” was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, but now fights out of Sherman Oaks, California. Toney was a professional boxer for years, and will be making his UFC debut in Boston.

The Middleweight bout sees a pair of Brazilian fighters with Demian Maia taking on Mario Miranda. Maia is 32 years old and stands 6’0, weighing 185lbs. Using the southpaw stance; Maia has won 12 of 14 MMA bouts. In his last fight he was downed by fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva at UFC 112. Before that, Maia beat Dan Miller in an unanimous decision in Las Vegas, as part of UFC 109. Mario Miranda made his professional MMA debut in 2006, and just signed with Ultimate Fighting Championship in February of 2010. His first fight was in March at Fight Night, where he lost to Gerald Harris. In his most recent fight at UFC 115 he TKO’d Canadian David Loiseau. The Lightweight bout features two American fighters once again with Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard. Florian is known best for his appearance on The Ultimate Fighter where he lost in the final to Diego Sanchez. Gray Maynard was an excellent high school and college wrestler, attending Michigan State, before joining the mixed martial arts world.

In the final bout of the main card, the Welterweight bout sees Nate Diaz take on Marcus Davis. Diaz is just 25 years old, and goes by “The Kid from Stockton”. He holds a 12-5 career record, and is coming off a win over Rory Markham at UFC 111. Marcus Davis will turn 37 years old later this month, and holds a MMA record of 17-6. His last fight was also a win; over Canadian Jonathan Goulet at UFC 113. Nate Diaz comes in as the decide favorite in this bout.

There is also a preliminary card, which can be seen on Spike TV. Those two fights see Joe Lauzon against Gabe Ruediger in a lightweight bout, and also English fighter Andre Winner against Nik Lentz. The big match, featuring Lauzon and Ruediger sees Lauzon as the favorite.
