In the lightweight bout, Canadian Sam Stout will battle against American Jeremy Stephens. Stout, known as “hands of stone” has a 15-5 overall MMA record. Stephens from Des Moines, Iowa is 16-5 and coming off a win over Justin Buchholz. The middleweight bout at UFC 113 features Canadian Patrick Cote against American Alan Belcher. This should be a very tight fight, with both fighters anxious to prove themselves. Cote is 18-5 as a professional fighter, while Belcher is 15-6. Belcher beat Wilson Gouveia at UFC 107 back in December. Cote, has not fought since October of 2008 when he lost to Anderson Silva. The “main event” of the preliminary card pitches the Canadian middleweight Joe Doerksen against the American Tom Lawlor. Doerkson is an experienced submission specialist who made his MMA debut back in 1999. Notable wins include a submission of Patrick Cote who ironically enough fights on the main card. Lawlor comes in to the fight as a big favourite, and although he has much less experience then Doerksen, he is expected to come out on top. Lawlors record shows only two losses, one being a DQ and the other in his most recent fight against Aaron Simpson which resulted in a somewhat controversial split decision.
