Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping – 6ft 2”, 185lbs – Fights out of Manchester, England with one of the biggest camps in the UK; The Wolfslair. ‘The Count’ is primarily a stand up fighter with a background in Kickboxing and boxing and is always keen to try and keep the fight on standing. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter season 4 finale and winning a 6 figure contract with the UFC, Bisping has become a one of the UK’s premier MMA fighters.
Bisping Hold’s an Overall MMA record of 21 – 3 with a UFC record of 10 – 3. ‘The Count’ Originally competed as a Light Heavyweight fighter, and suffered his only defeat at that weight class against current UFC Light Heavyweight number 1 contender Rashad Evans via split decision. Bisping decided to move down a weight class in 2008 at UFC 83 and has had 6 wins and 2 losses whilst competing at Middleweight, against Wanderlai Silva and Dan Henderson, and holds notable wins over Chris ‘The Crippler’ Leben, Denis Kang, Dan Miller, Matt Hamill and Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Jorge ‘El Conquistador’ Rivera – 6ft 1”, 185lbs – hails from Milford, Massachusetts and trains with Team Sityodtong. Rivera is a Muay Thai fighter with an excellent stand up game with an ever evolving ground game and had competed as a contestant on The Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback and was due to fight Alessio Sakara at UFC 122 but the fight was cancelled due to flu like symptoms from his opponent.
‘El Conquistador’ holds an overall MMA record of 18 – 7 with a UFC record of 7 – 5 with notable wins over the ever impressive Nate Quarry and former Ultimate Fighter winner Kendall grove. Rivera is a fighter with a lot of heart that does not know the meaning of the word quit and will give any opponent a hard time in the octagon.
Michael Bisping vs Jorge Rivera Prediction
Stylistically this could turn out to be a highly entertaining match up with both fighter’s looking to keep the fight standing and just bang! It is interesting to note that Rivera called Bisping out for the fight and that ‘The Count’ deems Rivera to be lucky that he got his opportunity to fight him; could Bisping be taking the fight too lightly? I feel that since the tragic passing of Rivera’s daughter, ‘El Conquistador’ has dedicated himself solely on fighting and he has become a markedly better MMA fighter for it. I feel that Bisping’s game has not evolved at a rapid enough rate for him to be granted top 5 status and would not be surprised if Rivera takes the win. Although a tough match to call, I am going to be controversial and pick Rivera to take the win in style and propel himself in the UFC Middleweight division. Rivera to win via TKO in the very 1st round.
