The latest Jon Jones Vs Mauricio Rua Odds;
Jones – (-200) @ Bodog.Com
Rua – (+185) @ SportsBook.Com
Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua – 6ft 1”, 205lbs – was raised in Curitiba, Brazil and represents Chute Box. ‘Shogun’ is the current undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight Champion after defeating the Karate phenom and former Champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 113. Rua won the Pride 205 middleweight Grand Prix and holds Black belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai (Brazilian’s use the belt ranking system in Muay Thai which is unusual). Rua is also one of only two fighters to have the honour of achieving both Pride and UFC Championships along with Mark Coleman.
Mauricio Rua has an overall MMA record of 19 – 4 with a UFC record of 3 – 2 with impressive wins over a who’s who in the Light Heavyweight division including Chuck Liddell, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Mark Coleman, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Lyoto Machida and he has beaten the current K-1 and Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem on 2 occasions. ‘Shogun’ is a highly aggressive fighter with a very powerful Muay Thai base and an extremely good ground game. Rua is quite possibly the best 205lb fighter in the world today.
Jon ‘Bones’ Jones – 6ft 4”, 205lbs – was born in Rochester, New York and fights out of Albuquerque, New Mexico with Jackson’s Submission Fighting. Jones is a highly skilled wrestler winning the 2005 state wrestling championship and is a former National Junior College Champion. ‘Bones’ has a highly unorthodox fighting system, utilising his extremely long reach (Jones actually has the longest reach in the UFC at 84.5”) and delivering his attacks from all angles with incredible speed and ferocity. Jones is always going to use his unique skill set to try and wear his opponent down and then attempt his very quick and powerful takedowns and go for a relentless ground ‘n’ pound attack, using his elbows in particular to great effect.
Jon Jones holds an overall MMA record of 12 – 1 with a UFC record of 6 – 1 with highly impressive wins over Stephan Bonnar, former IFL Light Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Matyushenko, Brandon Vera and at UFC 126 gave the highly talented Ryan Bader his first ever defeat via a modified Guillotine choke. Jones only loss came via DQ to Matt Hamill for using illegal 12 – 6 elbows whilst on the ground with Hamill not being able to continue after being hit with the blows. It is worth noting that Jones was completely dominating the fight up to the point of the DQ and out wrestling the highly talented wrestler in Matt Hamill.
Jon Jones Vs Mauricio Rua Prediction
This match up should have been Rua vs Rashad Evans, however as Evans had to withdraw from the bout due to injury, the man to receive the shot at the UFC Light Heavyweight title is the very talented Jon Jones. I really feel that Jones is the future of MMA and will become a legend in the sport with his amazing strength, speed and accuracy of his attacks taking him all the way to the top of the pile in the Light Heavyweight division. This is a very tough fight to call with both fighters being given short notice to prepare; however I feel that the advantage of the late match making would go with Jones – he is on a high after defeating Bader and is in great shape, whereas Rua has been preparing for a much different fighter in Evans and the reach, speed and ferocity of Jones may well catch him off guard. I am going to stick my neck out and say that Jones will win the fight via TKO in the 2nd round.
My Jon Jones Vs Mauricio Rua Prediction – Jones Wins Via TKO.
