Dennis Siver Vs Matt Wiman Odds

Talk about an unlikely run. Dennis Siver was originally brought into the UFC as a local fighter while the UFC was expanding into Europe. After initially going 1-3 in the UFC, Siver was cut from the promotion, and many believed he would fade into obscurity. However after winning some fights on local shows, Siver was brought back, and has managed to go on an incredible 6-1 run. Most recently, Siver pulled off a massive upset against George Sotiropoulos, which saw Siver outstrike the Australian in a fight Siver was clearly brought in to lose. This is Siver’s return fight.

Matt Wiman appeared on season 5 of TUF, and began an unlikely four fight win streak after the show culminating in a big upset over Thiago Tavares. Wiman would be soundly defeated by Jim Miller in a contender eliminator, and followed that up with a close and controversial decision loss against Sam Stout. However, he has since racked up three straight wins in the division to propel himself into relevancy. This includes a win over Cole Miller in his last fight whose stock was riding high for beating Ross Pearson (who accounts for Siver’s lone loss in his 6-1 run).

Like all fighters currently in the UFC, both guys are well fairly well rounded. Siver recently showed off his submission skills against Andre Winner, beautifully trapping his opponent’s arm to finish the rear naked choke, and Matt Wiman has shown knock out power. With that said, I believe this to be a fairly clear cut grappler versus striker matchup, with Siver taking on the role of striking, and Wiman the wrestler.

If this fight stays standing, it’s hard to imagine Siver losing. He’s shown an incredible ability to throw a large volume of strikes, including front kicks, looping punches, and of course his patented spinning back kick. However most impressively about Siver’s striking game has been his ability to strike effectively moving backwards.

For me however, the big question for this fight is going to be whether Wiman can bring this fight to the ground. The problem with answering this question is that Siver probably has the best takedown defense of anyone Wiman has ever fought, and Wiman is probably the best wrestler that Siver has ever fought. While Sotiropoulos is undoubtedly a wizard on the ground, he lacks the explosive takedown ability that Wiman has, and so we can’t extrapolate too much from that fight. In contrast, Wiman most recently won a one sided decision over Cole Miller using his top control, however Siver is not going to be complacent to fight off of his back the way Miller was.

Ultimately, I think the fact that Siver will not settle on his back will decide this fight. I believe Wiman may have some early success with takedowns, but that Siver will be able to pop back up each and every time, and that Wiman will get slowly demoralized. The Dennis Siver vs Matt Wiman prediction is that Siver outstrikes Wiman in the second half of the fight leading to either a late stoppage or a decision win.

Personally, I’m pretty surprised by the -125 line on Siver, especially since he has fought and beaten the better fighters. With that said, I think it does closely reflect reality owing to the fact that Siver has yet to fight a good wrestler. However I still think a small play is warranted on Siver, since he should be able to stop the takedown and outstrike his opponent.

Conclusion: Siver should be able to outstrike a faded Wiman to take the decision, and with the curremt Dennis Siver Vs Matt Wiman Odds, a small bet on Siver is warranted.
