UFC Live

The next big event on the Ultimate Fighting Championship circuit is UFC Live. The event takes place on March 21st, 2010 at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield Colorado. Broomfield is a suburb of Denver and currently has a population of just fewer than 55,000. The 1st Bank Center sits just off Route 36 and holds up to 6,500 people. The venue has not held any events since September of 2009, but will re-open in March with a Furthur concert, followed by the UFC Live event. This is the second UFC event that has taken place in Broomfield, at also at the 1stBank Center, with the first coming in 2008. The event will be the first event held by Versus. For Canadian viewers, the fight will be held on Sportsnet. UFC Live odds for a few of the fights have been released so it’s time to start preparing to make your bets.

The Main Bout

The main fight at UFC Live will feature Brandon Vera and Jon Jones. Jones is taking the place of Antonio Rogerio Noguiera, as they were slated to right in UFC 109. Vera is 32 years old from Virginia. His nickname is the Truth and he stands at 6’3, and weights 205lbs. His preferred style of fighting is the Muay Thai, along with Greco Roman Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsi. Vera has fought 15 professional fights, winning 11 of them. In those 11 wins, 7 of them have come via knockout. Vera was awarded a four-year athletic scholarship for wrestling to Old Dominion University, but left school after a year and 1/2. Jones is considerably younger, as he will turn 23 in July. His nickname all along has been Bones, as he is fighting in his 11th professional fight. His lone loss came to Matt Hamill in his last fight. The loss was due to a disqualification when the officials ruled his downward elbows were illegal. That fight came in the Ultimate Finale 10 on December 5th, 2009. Jon won a state wrestling title in high school, and then went to Iowa Central Community College, where he won a Junior College title there. Jon is noted for having the second longest reach in the history of UFC, only behind Tim Sylvia. The UFC Live lines and odds on this fight are out at some of our favorite books. The rest of the Main Card

The rest of the main card UFC Live Odds are not released as of yet but should be available soon. Two Brazilian Fighters will also square off during the UFC Live event. Junior Dos Santos and Gabriel Gonzaga will bout for the best of Brazil. Junior Dos Santos is coming off his TKO of Gilbert Yvel in UFC 108. He has won five straight fights dating back to May of 2008. Dos Santos is 25 years old and nicknamed Cigano. He stands 6’3 and weights 236lbs, despite fighting in the 265lbs division. He is best known for his Jiu-Jitsu style of fighting. Gonzaga will look to gain some respect against the more popular Dos Santos. He is coming off a fight against American Chris Tuchscherer, in which he knocked him out in the first round. That fight was during the UFC 102 bout in Portland Oregon. Gonzaga is 11-4 in 15 career fights. He stands 6’2 and weighs 260lbs.

Also on the main card for UFC Live is Cheick Kongo and Paul Buentello. Kongo is a French heavyweight that will turn 35 years old in May. Kongo’s favorite style is the Muay Thai. He currently trains out of Paris France. Kongo began his professional fighting career in 2001 by knocking out Doog Ward. Overall, Kongo has won 14 of his 21 professional fights. The last time he was in the ring, he took a loss to Frank Mir via technical submission during UFC 107 in Memphis. His opponent – Paul Buentello is also coming off a loss; also at UFC 107 – to Stefan Struve. Paul is 36 years old and stands 6 foot 2 inches. In 38 career MMA fights, Buentello has won 27 and lost 11, including 17 knockouts. He was born and raised in Amarillo Texas.

The preliminary Card

The preliminary Card at UFC Live features several excellent fighters and again the UFC Live lines on these fights are not yet released. In the seven fights, 11 of the 14 fighters will be Americans. The one fight that is not announced is the lightweight bout. This fight is most likely to feature Duane Ludwig of the United States, against Darren Elkins, also of the USA.

In the Middleweight bout, American James Irvin will take on Alessio Sakara. Sakara has not fought in a UFC bout since August, where he beat Brazilian Thales Leites. Irvin lost to Anderson Silva back in July in UFC Fight Night 14. In the lightweight bout that is announced Clay Guida will take on Shannon Guegery. Both fighters are Americans; and both coming off losses in their most recent UFC event. We expect the UFC Live odds for this fight to be very close.

In the light heavyweight bout Eliot Marshall of the United States will take on Vladimir Matyushen of Belarus. Matyushen turned 39 years old in January, and has an overall fighting record of 23 wins and 4 losses. Marshall, known as “The Fire” has won eight of his nine professional fights. He will turn 30 years old in July. In the Welterweight bout, John Howard will try his skill against Daniel Roberts. Howard, from Boston, MA, turns 27 years old in March. He has won his last six fights, and his most recent came in December, knocking out Dennis Hallman. Daniel Roberts, known as Ninja has an overall record of 9-0. His most recent win was over Anthony Macias in a non-UFC fight on January 16th in Tulsa, OK. This fight for Howard will be his UFC debut. The UFC Live lines for this great fight have yet to be released but check back soon for odds and predictions.

The Heavyweight bout will be between Brendan Schaub and Chase Gormley. Schaub, a former football player at the University of Colorado will put his 5-1 fighting record on the line. Schaub turns 27 years old this month. Gormley has been fighting since the age of 13. He became professional in 2007, and since then has won 6 of 7 rights. His lone loss came on October 24th, 2009 in UFC 104 in Los Angeles. That night, Gormley was downed by Stefan Struve via a triangle choke. The Welterweight bout will offer American Mike Pierce against Brazilian Julio Paulino. Pierce is 10-3 in professional fights. Lastly, Eric Schafer and Jason Brilz will go at it in a Light Heavyweight bout. Schafer is from Wisconsin, while Brilz currently calls Nebraska home.
